Alumni Chris Scoggins ’95 and Jay ’96 and Shannon Thomson ‘96 have stepped forward and have committed $20,000 to continue to match gifts to the Raymond Judd Student Emergency Fund from faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends.
The need from students for help is real. We have received requests from students for housing, transportation, basic needs, and technology. As of March 30, there have been 247 requests from students for funds totaling $124,228.
I can personally relate to your stories of students who struggled to get home. One student dealt with a parent’s medical condition and a car wreck as she returned home. Others are dealing with food and housing insecurity. Some of our students come to Trinity on the margins economically, and they return to an environment where they are facing challenges with family income, food insecurity, and technology and internet connectivity.
To help us meet these needs, Trustee and parent Ted Beneski has committed $25,000 to match gifts to this fund. This challenge enables us to match the next $25,000 of gifts. I hope we can reach this goal within two weeks.
Thank you for showing our students what it means to be One Trinity, together. Please stay safe and healthy!
Thank you to those who have already made a gift to the Raymond Judd Student Emergency Fund. As of Monday, there had been 206 requests from students for funds totaling $106K. As of Friday, March 20th, the committee reviewing the requests had dispersed $56K to 150 students.
In order to assist students facing immediate financial challenges related to the Coronavirus pandemic, Trinity University is making emergency funds available to students upon request. A group, including SGA representatives, has designed a process to allow for requests. An email was sent to students on 03/17/20 informing them of this assistance.
